Feeling like you have the weight of the world on your shoulders and you’re responsible for everything is unfortunately what a lot of people face each day. It causes them to fill will a sense of dread and drudgery when they begin each day. If you wake up in the morning, feeling like you’re a workhorse for the planet and hate facing each new day, it’s time to start taking care of yourself, because if you don’t, nobody will.
Improve your mood with exercise.
If you’re trapped on the treadmill of despair, there’s good news on the horizon. You can brush away the blues with a little exercise. While you may not feel like working out, it actually is the best thing for you. Take a few minutes to do some deep knee bends, part of your exercise routine or even go for a walk. It increases circulation, and burns off hormones of stress, replacing them with ones that make you feel good. Take time to workout every day and you’ll start feeling more energetic and better both physically and emotionally.
Eat healthier.
If you’re like most busy people, you tend to eat on the run or grab something quick from the cupboard or the refrigerator. Two studies done in Europe showed that a healthy diet could relieve depression. One used 67 people that had depression. A third were given traditional counseling, a third received antidepressants and a third had both antidepressants and counseling Half of each group had nutritional counseling and the other half had improved forms of social interaction. The group that improved their diet showed a significant improvement in their depression. The second study focused on the types of food that improved mood and found it was closely related to the Mediterranean diet that was laden with natural food, including fruits and vegetables, healthy oils and fresh fish. It eliminated processed food.
Take time for yourself.
You deserve some personal time, whether you use it for morning meditation, journaling, calling an old friend or just reading a book. You need to schedule time for yourself. It doesn’t matter what you do, but it should be something you enjoy or that makes your life better. Exercise, walk in the park, enjoy the gifts of Mother Nature. Schedule time for friends or time to be alone. You deserve a scheduled time each day just for you.
- Develop an attitude of gratitude. Start focusing on what’s good in your life and all that you’ve been given. It’s a simple exercise that will make you smile and appreciate all you have, rather than what you don’t have.
- When you exercise regularly, you’ll build your endurance and strength. You won’t be tired as quickly and find you sleep better at night.
- Get adequate sleep. We’re a nation that prides itself on burning the candle at both ends, but it’s not only dangerous to your health, it blocks your road to happiness. When you’re tired, you’re grumpy and that’s not being happy.
- Be your best friend. Would a good friend constantly berate you and review every mistake you ever made? No, and you shouldn’t do it to yourself either. Instead, compliment yourself on successes.
