If you’re off on a vacation with the family, choose a hotel or motel with a pool. If you’re going to a place to hike or an amusement park, you’ve already conquered the problem with exercising. Your whole trip will be one long walk. If traveling is all about business, you need extra planning. If there’s a gym where you’re staying, use it.

Research before you go. Most restaurants now have an online presence. You can check their menus, prices, and reviews. If you’re on a driving vacation, plan your driving sessions around stopping at restaurants that offer healthy meals or take a cooler filled with healthy food. Locate a grocery near your hotel or motel to buy healthy snacks or nutritious food that doesn’t require cooking for those days you don’t want to eat in a restaurant.
Choose alternative methods of exercise besides walking, hiking, or swimming.
Have you ever tried resistance bands? They’re inexpensive, lightweight, and take up little room in your suitcase. Learn fitness routines using them. When you’re on the road, you’ll be ready to workout. Learn bodyweight exercises that don’t require any equipment. Squats, push-ups, and planks are a few. High-impact calisthenics create a lot of noise. Find low-impact ones to use to curtail complaints from the neighboring room. Find exercises that don’t require a lot of space to do.

- If you’re doing bodyweight exercises, take an exercise mat. Doing push-ups or any exercise that requires you to lay on a hotel room floor can be disgusting if you consider all the feet that were there before you.
- If your trip is a vacation but you haven’t chosen a destination, make it one where you’ll be more active. Spend time at a beach swimming or in an area where you can hike, bike, surf, or rock climb.
- Besides planning food to take on a driving trip, plan to stay hydrated. Don’t include sweet soft drinks or even fruit juice. Vegetable juice, unsweetened tea, and water are good options.
