Who wouldn’t want to stay in shape for as long as possible? Even if you get sick, when you’re in shape, it doesn’t take as long to recover. If you’re pregnant, it makes delivery easier. You’ll get back to your pre-baby shape sooner. How do you do it? Stick with an exercise schedule and eat healthier food by limiting highly processed food and food with added sugar.
No matter how old or out of shape you are, it’s never too late to start.
Don’t expect to do twenty push-ups or run a mile immediately, especially if your lifestyle is sedentary. That shouldn’t stop you from starting a fitness program. Take it slowly at first and focus on your form. As you get fitter and the workout gets easier, increase the intensity, number of reps, or amount of time you exercise. If you can’t do a full 45 minutes, break it down into several smaller sessions you can do throughout the day. You can even do nine five-minute sessions if necessary.
Remember that this is the first day of the rest of your life.
If you smoke, drink too much, abuse drugs, are overweight, are out of shape, or have a diet that consists of fast food, it’s not too late to improve. You can do several things at once. If you’re quitting a bad habit like smoking, every time you want a cigarette, run in place for five minutes. When you exercise, it relieves the desire to smoke. Cutting out sugar and unhealthy food is also good if you quit smoking. You tend to nibble more, so make it a low-calorie, healthy option like fresh fruit or vegetables. You can also focus on one change until it becomes a habit and then start on the next. It all depends on what works best for you.
Create short-term goals that lead to your long-term ones.
The thought of losing 60 pounds can be quite daunting. Break those goals down into smaller ones you can accomplish in a week. Losing 2-pounds a week is reasonable. Focus on achieving that weekly goal for 30 weeks. It motivates you to stick with your goal because you’ll have weekly successes to help boost your morale. Track your progress. That also increases your motivation.
- Cutting added sugar from your life can do a lot to get you on a healthier path. Choosing whole food is another healthy option. You can use frozen or canned fruits and vegetables but read the labels to ensure they don’t contain other additives.
- Smile more. Laugh more. Enjoy life. You’ll be more driven to stay active if you have a social life. When you walk, increase your stride and your pace. No matter what age you are, these things help you live longer.
- It is harder to get and stay in shape as you age. Your body produces fewer hormones that are necessary to build muscle. However, it’s not impossible. Just keep focused and keep trying.
- Learn to relax and eliminate stress. Stress negatively affects your entire body. Relaxation techniques like deep breathing, meditation, or exercise are excellent options for stress relief.
