Why You Should Try A Spin Class

You might be surprised that I would recommend a spin class for clients in Calgary, Canada, and the many people who use my workouts worldwide. My belief is not new. I endorse all types of activities to supplement my workouts. Spin classes have been around for about thirty years. It’s been popular for a long time because it provides benefits and is fun. While it won’t address all your fitness needs, it does help in many areas. Alternating your workout between my program and other fitness activities keeps your workouts fresh, helping you stick with your goal of good health.

You’ll boost your endurance with spin classes.

Spin classes provide excellent cardio benefits. They increase heart rate, which builds endurance. It makes your heart pump more efficiently to deliver oxygen and nutrients throughout the body. That improved ability helps reduce the potential for heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, and other diseases. It lowers bad cholesterol and triglyceride levels, alters body composition by decreasing fat and building muscle, and makes everyday activities easier.

You’ll improve joint health and avoid joint pain when you spin.

Spinning, like its counterpart bicycling, is a low-impact exercise. It works your lower body and builds the muscles and tendons that help prevent excess grinding on the joints, particularly the knee joints. The tissue surrounding the joints is stronger, so they function better. Spinning improves the circulation of both blood and synovial fluid. Synovial fluid keeps the joints lubricated to reduce the wear and tear on joints. Since you’re seated, there’s no weight causing pressure on lower body joints.

You’ll burn extra calories in a spin class.

If weight loss is one of your goals, spinning can help you do it. It’s fast-moving if you’re fit enough to keep up, but you can take it at your own pace if you’re not. You control how much effort you put into it and how fast and hard you pedal. Some classes are HIIT—high intensity interval training—workouts. They alternate between peak intensity and a recovery pace. HIIT workouts burn tons of calories while you’re working out and continue to burn calories long after you quit.

  • You’ll build core strength and improve abdominal muscle strength. That can help relieve back pain and give you a flatter stomach. It helps burn visceral fat, the most dangerous type of fat.
  • You’ll improve lower body strength. It builds lean muscle mass that works the glutes, abs, and hamstrings. It also provides some exercise for the arms.
  • You’ll have a social atmosphere. We have a strong community and personal training, but the socialization is different than in a spin class. It provides a local outlet and social activity that gets you out of the house.
  • Spin class is one more activity you can add to your arsenal for fitness. Like other types of exercise, it’s an excellent supplement to our complete fitness plan.
